We spend a lot of time talking about gym management software for CrossFit boxes, and rightly so. We create it!
Great gym management software should be more than just a set of features that allow gym owners to smoothly manage their gym. The best software is flexible to the needs of gym owners and can serve multiple purposes.
Most CrossFit and functional fitness gyms will host some sort of event, whether it’s a service event, a CrossFit competition, or a simple get-together.
At these events, hosts need to be able to sell tickets or items, and if it is a competition, they need to be able to visualize and record workouts and scores.
But as a gym owner, you may be thinking, “I don’t want to have to purchase a ton of software programs and cobble them together to fit my needs.”
Thankfully, you don’t have to.
Let’s take a deeper dive into CrossFit competition software, and how WODHOPPER saves time and trouble for gym owners running events and competitions.
Most gyms select a competition-specific software program to run CrossFit competitions, and this makes sense: If you need a solution for a competition, this option provides everything you need.
If you’re on a budget, much of the same functionality can be mimicked by piecing together different 3rd party software. For example, most all-in-one solutions use Stripe. Anyone can set up an account and plug their reader into an iPad or phone.
But this route doesn’t make a ton of sense unless you have extra time to spare or enjoy embarking on moderately complex technical projects.
At WODHOPPER, we’re all about keeping things simple, so of course, we’re going to support the simplest and most logical solution:
If you’re a gym, consider working with your gym management software vendor.
You likely already have many of the pieces in place through this relationship (if you don’t, let’s talk about simplifying gym management for your CrossFit box today), and only need to pay for access to the necessary added functionality.
When it comes to CrossFit competition software, a number of key features are absolutely necessary in order for your event or competition to go off without a hitch.
If a competitor can’t register, then you won’t be able to keep track of who is competing, much less workouts and scores.
Assuming you are charging for this, you’re probably going to want to be able to collect funds. And if you’re anything like us, you appreciate security and ease of use, so it’s imperative that your solution has secure, hassle-free payment processing.
Collecting sales data allows you to track revenue and the number of tickets sold or redeemed. This is important because it gives you the ability to gauge whether or not your event was a success, and plan accordingly for future events.
Not all solutions offer this, but we think it’s absolutely necessary. Make sure you look into this before signing up. A quality competition programming and scoring system is key to any fair and successful event.
Your software solution might include digital waivers, which allows competitors (and you as an organizer) to avoid excess paperwork and slowdowns on the day of the event. Hooray for efficiency!
You may also want to look for a solution that allows for scheduling of events, and division of teams or competitors into heats. Organization and flexibility are key.
Circling back to data collection, it’s important to understand how your data can be visualized. Will the scoreboard be updated in real-time? Does it need to get refreshed after each batch of data is added?
WOD Tracking software like WODHOPPER works great for this purpose!
It’s always helpful to be able to communicate a consistent message when it comes to advertising and running your event.
Consider an option that allows you to have a branded landing page for your competition, and can send emails such as order confirmation after tickets or entry fees have been paid by a competitor or spectator.
There are plenty of options out there when it comes to CrossFit competition software. Pricing for access to a program is all over the place, ranging from $99 to $999+.
Most software programs have a transaction-based fee model that applies to both registration fees and credit card processing, which usually ends up being around 2.9% to 3.5% of gross registration fee revenue, plus $0.30 to $1.50 per transaction.
Transaction-based fees can add up for events with many competitors. It’s common to pass fees onto competitors with either option.
As you move up in price, you generally get additional features, often ranging from things like a higher competitor cap to increased support (which often includes both customer support and support of 3rd party software integrations.

We spoke with Blair at CrossFit Anywhere to get his take on WODHOPPER as an event POS software.
Blair hosted the Northern California Classic, a 3-day fitness and CrossFit competition highlighting different aspects of fitness culture and lifestyle in the Northern California region.
At the event, which took place on June 29th, 30th and 31st of 2019, Blair used WODHOPPER to sell Beer Garden tickets.
This was no slouch of an event. In total, there were about 350 participants and 1500-2000 spectators.
The event and the ticket sales went very smoothly, generating over $4,500 in credit card sales.
CrossFit Anywhere also uses WODHOPPER as a CrossFit gym POS software, selling retail items right from their CrossFit boxes. When it comes to retail sales, WODHOPPER has gym member information on file, so no credit cards are needed at the point of sale, and members can pay retail purchases off with their monthly bill.
At the Northern California classic, not all attendees were members, so credit card information was not on file, but the process was simple anyway. The event hosts simply added the Beer Garden tickets as a new item in their retail store and used a credit card reader to process sales.
